RG Kar Case: victim's parents and doctors demand CBI take over probe

In the RG Kar rape-murder case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) plans to appeal to the Calcutta High Court, seeking the death penalty for Sanjay Roy. Roy was sentenced to life imprisonment until death by the Sealdah court. However, the victim's father has expressed concerns over the case's progress. While he respects the lower court's verdict, he believes more individuals involved in his daughter's tragic death must be brought to justice.

Speaking to PTI, the grieving father mentioned his intention to consult his legal counsel before commenting on the CBI's move. However, he emphasized the importance of continuing the investigation to ensure all culprits face consequences. "The CBI must arrest and punish every person involved in murdering my daughter," he said.

The West Bengal Doctors' Forum has also voiced strong concerns. Dr. Kaushik Chaki, the forum’s president, demanded that the CBI thoroughly investigate the case. He stated, "Justice cannot be achieved by convicting just one individual. Institutional corruption and evidence tampering must be addressed. The failure to take action against high-ranking officials and the former principal of RG Kar needs urgent attention."

Protests and appeal for transparency

Doctors across West Bengal have been protesting, asserting that Sanjay Roy's conviction alone does not provide justice to their deceased colleague. Many believe the case exposes deeper flaws within the system, including alleged corruption and evidence mishandling.

The doctors' forum accused authorities of delaying the investigation, destroying key evidence, and covering up the involvement of influential individuals. They highlighted the lack of necessary permissions to file charges against the former RG Kar principal and senior police officials as a significant issue.

The victim’s family and medical community remain hopeful that a transparent and thorough probe by the CBI will uncover the full truth and ensure justice. Their demands underscore the importance of holding every responsible party accountable and restoring faith in the judicial system.
